I have a Lumber Sponsor!
Lumber is a large portion of my materials. I am extremely fortunate to have a family friend who is a local Truss Builder. We had a meeting yesterday and he agreed to supply the lumber needed for my Project. He is inspired by the way I am thinking outside the box for a person my age (14) and my desire to live efficiently. To me it is more than just a sponsorship, it is a confirmation of support and deep belief in ME and my future and for this I am eternally grateful.
Another part of our conversation was about how Schools no longer teach subjects like: mechanics, woodworking, home-economics, real live skills type classes. Well I am Homeschooled and my school chooses to teach these real life subjects. With this Project, I will learn all sorts of home related skills. Design, construction, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, home energy efficiency, roofing, flooring... So if and when anything were to go wrong in the future, since I built it, I will know how to fix it.
I am still in the process of searching and securing a sponsor for the trailer, flashing, floor insulation, construction glue, screws and nails. Once I have these, I will be able to build the whole foundation and frame the walls and roof. Building where I live in the Southern California Desert is seasonal. Between the months of May and October the temperatures can reach anywhere from 90 degrees to 126 degrees. I am hoping to get started sometime before Christmas and get all of the walls and roof framed before next summer's heat comes. Ultimately I would love to have the exterior completely sealed and enclosed, but securing and installing all of these products might be a challenge within the next 9 months. There's always prayer and hard work, so we'll see how far I'll get.
