Summer So Far 2013

July 13 2013 Tim Lincecum No-Hitter

So far it has been the summer of trying to catch up.  It took the kids a lot longer than expected to finish their homeschool subjects than I realized.  Starting mid year was not the best decision planning wise, but it did get our feet wet and give us a good understanding of what a full year is going to look like.  I am still working on grading and record keeping as well as laying out our schedule and curriculum for this coming school year.
One huge event that I was planning on to help in our homeschool endeavor was the CHEA (Christian Home Educators Association of California http://www.cheaofca.org/) Homeschool Convention last month (at the Disneyland Hotel!).  I had the hotel all planned out, the tickets paid for, it was going to be a great girls weekend with Molly, my friend Michelle and me.  What I didn't expect was to get really sick during the first Seminar (Ken Ham) and have to come back home. I didn't even make it to the see the exhibitors, which I was really depending on seeing to buy curriculum.  I feel like such a disappointment, I let down my two favorite girls.  Hopefully they will forgive me soon, at least there is a convention every year so I have a chance to make it up to them.  So, back to square one and doing all of my research online.

At the time of my few week random illness, we were switching over health insurances and doctors so I did not make to  urgent care for a little while.  Last month was rough, I kept hitting block walls.   Good thing now, is that I am feeling much better, have seen and like my new doctor.  He seems Competent and Thorough.

June was certainly full of celebrations and Graduations, you know who you are.  Charlie and I celebrated our 14th Anniversary by going to dinner at Roy's Hawaiian fusion.  They made me perfectly grilled plain Mahi Mahi, plain grilled asparagus and plain rice.  We were even complemented by our newlywed waiter about how we were not on our phones and were pleasantly conversing the whole time.  I love how much I still enjoy hanging out with my husband just the two of us.

July has been fun.  We took our one vacation camping in beautiful sunny Chula Vista!  Chula Vista RV Resort is still our top preferred place of camping (http://www.chulavistarv.com/), if you own an RV, we highly recommend trying it out.  There are plenty of places for riding bikes, large pool, a park on the bay, two nice marina-side restaurants and lots of ducks.  We had a pleasant visit when my cousin Shannon came down with her kids for the day.  It was a typical beach/bbq/hangout kind of day, just what the doctor ordered for everyone. The only unfortunate part of this stay was that there was a rainbow rally also staying at the RV park for a couple days.  Besides all of their flags and decorations they were not too audacious.

Hey!
But by far the highlight of this trip was the Giants/Padres game we attended. We were fortunate to get seats not to far behind home plate during an electric NO-Hitter by Giants Pitcher Tim Lincecum.  He has always been one of our favorite players and to witness this epic game was a once in a lifetime event!  On the long walk back to the parking garage the streets in the Gaslamp District were alive with hooting, hollering and cheering.  I still don't think the kids fully grasp the concept of what really happened, but at least they can say they were there when it happened.
Tim on the mound!

August is our month of birthdays, so I'm sure there will be a few posts among the celebrating.  Lots of opportunities to bake!

 See you next month...
